Changing chapters / Menopause

Changing periods. A conversation worth having.

Perimenopause, menopause and later life are different stages. Age alone cannot tell you what is happening.

01

Changes and other causes

Perimenopause can bring changing periods, hot flushes, night sweats, sleep and mood changes. New or unusual bleeding should not automatically be put down to menopause.

02

Your choices and questions

A GP can discuss symptoms, HRT and nonhormonal options, including benefits and risks for your circumstances. Ask: “What options are available, and what needs checking?”

03

After menopause

Any vaginal bleeding after menopause—even spotting, even once—should be checked by a GP. Most causes are not serious, but it is important to find out.
